Asking for help can be a challenge.
I am a very independent person and find it hard to reach out sometimes.
When I started to look for my first property I enjoyed the process, but the one thing I resisted a lot of the time was asking for help.
Then it hit me! Actually the whole process of buying a house requires me to ask for help!
To find a suitable mortgage and therefore secure the outstanding amount I needed to buy the property, I asked my broker for help.
To find a suitable house, I asked for help from estate agents.
To find out if there were any problems with the house that I may have missed, I asked a surveyor for help.
To understand and complete the legal paperwork and processes, I asked my solicitor for help.
To get the property up to a great standard, I asked my builder for help
The whole time I HAD to ask for help otherwise I would have been getting in the way of myself.
So yes it initially felt uncomfortable asking for financial help from others, but it was part of the process.
Like the mortgage, I asked for help and those who could and wanted to, did.
Like the mortgage, we assessed the risks and put a suitable plan in place so I could pay them back.
Some were offended, some said no and others said yes but that was it, nothing drastic!
So don’t let asking for help if needed, get in the way of you getting ahead.
Asking for help is part of the process
