Delayed Gratification

by | Jan 15, 2021

It has definitely been an interesting month so far and year last year, and has made me think about delayed gratification.

What is delayed gratification?

One website states that it’s the act of resisting an impulse to take an immediately available reward in the hope of obtaining a more-valued reward in the future.

Whether we like or not we have all participated in this over the last few months.

We have had to stay in our homes in the hope that we can keep ourselves and others safe

We had to stay away from family and friends in the hope we would see them again and even hug them again once safety measures are put place.

We were not able to access certain luxuries and it forced us think about is really essential in our everyday lives (like toilet roll!) and the hope to access things we need again.

We are not able to send our children to school and had to homeschool in the hope they will be able to return at some point.

Some of us had so much more time on our hands and decided to reflect on our lives, start new ventures in the hope we can make the most of our gifts, passions for the future.

Delayed gratification is not easy and requires self control and discipline.

Even when saving for a deposit for a property requires this skill. Cutting out the luxuries, the non-essentials and having patience in the hope of getting your home as the reward.

Throughout this process there is always sacrifice and growth.

So honestly we have come very far and have so much more gratitude for everything.

If you are at the stage where you are thinking this deposit will take forever, finding a property is such a long process, remember you have experienced delayed gratification and are now slowly coming out of it and enjoying the rewards however small or big.

Keep going!
